In Arya Samaj, there are three pre-birth sanskars performed during pregnancy. These संस्कार (sanskars) are ritualistic ceremonies that are believed to have a positive influence on the development of the fetus.
The three pre-birth sanskars are:
Garbhadhana (Garbha - womb, Dhana - placing): This ceremony is performed soon after marriage to seek blessings for a child. The couple chants Vedic mantras seeking a healthy, virtuous child.
Punsavana (Punasvana - purification): This ceremony is performed in the second or third month of pregnancy. It is believed to promote the well-being of the fetus and ensure the birth of a child with good qualities. During this ceremony, the expectant mother consumes a mixture of clarified butter, honey, and herbs.
Simantonayana (Simanta - parting of the hair, ayana - approaching): This ceremony is performed in the fourth to sixth month of pregnancy. It is a gathering of women to bless the expectant mother and the unborn child. During the ceremony, the parting of the pregnant woman's hair is done with a Dharba (sacred grass).
