From the six birth and childhood sanskars in Arya Samaj, three specifically focus on education and youth development:
Vidyarambha (Vidya - knowledge, Arambha - beginning): This ceremony, around age 5, marks the formal beginning of a child's education. It emphasizes the importance of knowledge and ignites the student's desire to learn.
Upanayana (Upanayana - taking near): This ceremony, often coinciding with Vidyarambha, is a symbolic initiation into the world of knowledge. The student receives a sacred thread (yagnopavita) and begins their formal studies under a Guru (teacher). It signifies dedication to learning and self-discipline.
Samավर्तन (Samavartana) (Sama - complete, Avartana - descent): This ceremony, performed after the completion of Vedic studies (around 20-24 years old), signifies the student's graduation. It marks their transition from student to teacher or householder, ready to contribute to society with their acquired knowledge.
These three sanskars highlight Arya Samaj's emphasis on education, self-discipline, and lifelong learning.
